30 (ish) Song Intros We All Get Excited About

Let’s be honest, we all have that one song that we low-key lose our shit to whenever we hear the intro. Here are 30ish songs (in no particular order) that have just that.

WARNING: Nostalgia may (will) or may not set in.

31. “The Downfall Of Us All” – A Day To Remember

The a cappella chant consisting solely of the word “Da” in the beginning of the opening track of A Day To Remember’s album Homesick, followed by Jeremy screaming  “let’s go” is an intro you can’t help but get really into.. no matter where you are.

 

30. “Jamie All Over” – Mayday Parade

Jamie All Over has one of those intros that just makes you burst out into song. It’s hard to fight off the urge to scream the lyrics at the top of your lungs and sets you up for a jam session for the entirety of the song.

 

29. “Party With The Devil” – Attila

The beginning of Party With The Devil gradually intensifies and crescendos into it eventually exploding, beginning with Fronz’s low growl. It’s one of those songs that when played live by the band, not a single person in the crowd is standing still.

 

28, 28.5, 28.9. “Holiday” / “Time of Your Life” / “When I Come Around – Green Day

It’s very easy to tell when Holiday comes on by the definitive guitar melody at the beginning. Even people who aren’t that big of a fan of the punk scene still get slightly excited when they hear the beginning of this song.

Although it wasn’t your typical sound from one of the greatest punk bands of all time, “Time of your Life” has remained a fan favorite for most. And everyone loves to say “fuck it” along with Billie Joe Armstrong at the beginning.

Do we really need to say anything about “When I Come Around”?

 

27. “Weightless” – All Time Low

If you know the song Weightless you know that despite it’s mellowish beginning it slowly builds into a burst of energy. As the song inches closer and closer to the first chorus the excitement continues to build until it finally reaches the exploding point.

 

26. “Check Yes Juliet” – We The Kings

You always know shit’s about to go down when the first few notes of Check Yes Juliet are heard. We The Kings promised to always end a show with this song, and they’ve kept that promise and go out with a bang every single time.

 

25. “In Too Deep” – Sum 41

Quite possibly one of the most iconic Sum 41 songs starts out so simply yet still manages to get you excited. It doesn’t matter how long this song has been out, it can still feel like you’re hearing it for the first time when it comes on.

 

24. “My Friends Over You” – New Found Glory

Definitely a fan favorite.

 

23. “Ocean Avenue” – Yellowcard

It’s very difficult to not start dancing immediately once this song starts playing. The lyrics kick in almost immediately and you can’t help but burst into song. Personally, I’ve found that this song is a lot of fun to jam out to in the car.

 

22. “Sugar, We’re Going Down” – Fall Out Boy

Another song that you can easily identify when it comes on from the defining guitar melody followed by Patrick Stump’s unique vocals. It’s hard not to feel even an ounce of excitement when the first chords begin to play.

 

21. “The Taste of Ink” – The Used

So freaking good.

 

20. “And The Hero Will Drown” – Story of the Year

Enough said.

 

19. “Skyway Avenue” – We The Kings

Skyway Avenue picks up pretty quickly. From the very beginning it feels as though it should be the opening track of a movie. It’s an anthem for always sticking together and doing anything for the people you care about.

 

18. “All You Are Is History” – State Champs

The a cappella, blunt first sentence of this song sets the mood of someone who’s been pushed to their breaking point despite their constant efforts to let it go. It can get anyone hyped up right off the bat and is a good song to listen to if you’re pissed off.

 

17. “Smells Like Teen Spirit” – Nirvana

There’s a reason the saying “smells like the only Nirvana song you know” exists. Possibly the most popular Nirvana song can easily be recognized from the first note even if you don’t know anything else by the band.

 

16. “Lights and Sounds” – Yellowcard

Yes, I know. Yellowcard already made this list above, but how can we possibly leave this one off?

 

Let’s round this out with a lighting round of a few oldies…

15. “Self Esteem” – The Offspring

A little drunk sounding “la la” melody from the band members starts this song off right before the rocking really hits you hard.

 

14. “Monkey Wrench” – Foo Fighters

If this doesn’t get you pumped, what will?

 

13. “Welcome to the Black Parade” – My Chemical Romance

Obvi.

 

12. “Sydney” – Halifax

From the Drive-Thru Records era, this one just comes at you.

 

11. “Bleed For You” – Hidden In Plain View

So good.

 

10. “Best of Me” – The Starting Line

I think we can all agree here. Such a classic. Pulls you in with a sweet acoustic sound and then BOOM!

 

9. “Give It Up” – Homegrown

Another one from the Drive-Thru era.

 

8. “Cute Without the E” – Taking Back Sunday

Classic.

 

7. “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” – Panic! At The Disco

Once you hear it, you just can’t wait to get to the “I chime in…!”

 

6. “Mr. Brightside” – The Killers

Such a fun one to sing.

 

5. “The Middle” – Jimmy Eat World

Everyone’s favorite Jimmy Eat World song.

Funny, yet so true.
