Pop-punkers Bad Case talks career, fans and music inspiration

By March 16, 2017No Comments

With their new song, “Fool,” out and the band taking a couple days off from the Charm City tour with Carousel Kings, we sat down with Bad Case to talk about their career: past, present and future. If you haven’t heard of Bad Case before, they are one band you should keep on your radar.

Let’s get to know them a bit more.

APU: Can you give me some background? Where’d the band get started?
Bad Case: We’re a pop-punk band from New Jersey. We all pretty much met from playing in other bands in the scene. We’ve become such a solid, tight group of friends in our line-up and we’re ready to do some great things together.

APU: Where’d your band name come from? Who came up with it?
Bad Case: The band name stemmed from our original name, which was longer and quite a mouthful to say. People would always get it wrong and it gave off somewhat of a “goofy” vibe that we’re trying to stray from a bit. Everyone has always called us “Bad Case” anyway, so we decided we’d roll with it! People have been really supportive.

APU: What was the original band name?
Bad Case: The original band name was “Bad Case of Big Mouth”.

APU: What has been your favorite place to play and where are you most looking forward to playing?
Bad Case: Our favorite place to play so far has probably been our home-state Warped Tour date. The energy and support that we were showered with that day was unreal. Also, we love playing at our local venue Gamechanger World in Howell. We always have an amazing time there and the staff is always so great to us.

We are really looking forward to playing Chain Reaction in Anaheim, CA. Absolutely a bucket-list venue for a few of us, and we’re glad we get to play there on March 21st.

APU: Who’s your music inspiration?
Bad Case: We all have a lot of different inspirations, varying from hard rock to hip-hop to deathcore to really anything you can think of. We all share a common love for pop-punk, though. We can’t get enough of bands like Neck Deep, State Champs, All Time Low, and Broadside.

APU: What’s the coolest thing that’s ever happened at a show?
Bad Case: One amazing thing happened to us the other day in Buffalo, NY. An amazing fan, now friend, brought us a drawing he’d made from our song lyrics. It was an absolutely amazing feeling to see someone care about us and our music enough to take time to create a piece of art using our lyrics. Shoutout to Daniel Gamez!

APU: What’s your writing process like?
Bad Case: Usually we’ll have one base idea for a guitar part and just work off that. We’re really APUo the process of building and building off little parts until we have an entire instrumental skeleton. Then from there we can get lyrics and melodies down and put it all together.

APU: What’s the number one thing you want people to know about the band?
Bad Case: The number one thing we want people to know right now is that we just recently released a song called “Fool”. This song is super important to us because it’s our first song in this “chapter” of the band and really represents exactly what we’re going for and how we want to be viewed. People are reacting so well to the song and it’s making all of our struggles worth it.

APU: How would you define this new “chapter”?
Bad Case: This chapter is hopefully going to be defined by success and being taken more seriously as a band. We’re just really looking to get to the next level. We believe we can do it. It’s just going to take a lot of hard work, which we pride ourselves in.

APU: Advice for young musicians?
Bad Case: Never give up, and never stop working hard. When you think you’ve worked hard enough for the day, strive to work twice as hard the next. No one is going to notice you if you’re not working harder than every other band around. And of course, put out music that you love.
