Former Twenty One Pilots drummer Chris Salih was a recent guest on a Twenty One Pilots fan podcast. Salih opened up about the early days of Twenty One Pilots, his departure from the band and other names the group almost went by.

He mentions that he quit the band due to financial responsibilities at the time and that if he stayed in Twenty One Pilots, it would have been “a middle finger” to his parents as they co-signed on his student loans which were coming up on due payments.

He also explains what other names Twenty One Pilots almost went by (as transcribed by Strife Magazine):

“We were on a couple of things. We were almost Bicycle Thief, which I think that there’s a band already called Bicycle Thief so that may have been the first thing we didn’t do. We were almost Chill Coat. Actually, the attorney that I use for my business now is Chill Coat Law. It’s funny ‘cos Tyler knew of his name and thought it was cool so we were kinda going back and forth on that.”
