As the resident pop punk girl in my widely musically diverse friend group, they come to me with any pop punk related content or questions. Most recently, a friend reached out to me after a breakup with the question, “Do you know any good pop punk breakup songs?”

Having my own little punk heart broken a time or two, of course I had a list I was eager to share. However, I was posed with another question: what angsty breakup emotion needed to be expressed? Was it an “I hate you break everything in sight” feeling or “I truly wish you all the happiness in the world” breakup? Because I think we can all agree those are two totally different playlists. After some deliberation I went with a combination and comprised a short list for my dear hurt friend.

1. “If You Wanted A Song Written About You, All You Had To Do Was Ask” – Mayday Parade

Some of the best pop punk songs are the product of a vicious breakup. And Mayday Parade really just cut to the chase with this one.

2. “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing (feat. William Beckett)” – Set It Off

Lyrics from this Set It Off song inspired the title of my own personal breakup playlist. This ones for those who need an outlet for the post breakup anger that eventually builds up within.

3. “Feeling Sorry” – Paramore

Another one from my own personal breakup playlist. Once you’re over the initial hurt and need to be reminded of your worth, just know you have no time for feeling sorry.

4. “Go To Hell” – Go Radio

This one really just speaks for itself. When you have so many thoughts and emotions and just don’t quite know how to formulate them; use this song as your starting place. By the end of the song you will realize that “I’m okay by myself.”

5. “Screaming Infidelities” – Dashboard Confessional

I truly believe that screaming, “your hair is everywhere,” along with Chris Carrabba is cleansing for the soul. Top off your breakup sing along with a classic.
