UPDATE (August 5th @ 9:30PM): EW reports that Peter Bywaters was not deported due to mocking trump, but due to not having the proper visa.
CBP spokesman Jaime Ruiz told EW that Bywaters’ lampooning Trump was not the reason he was blocked from entering the country. “The claim that he was refused entry to the United States because he mocked the president of the United States, that is absolutely not true,” Ruiz said Wednesday. “That is false. The reason he was denied entry was because he came with the wrong visa.”
ORIGINAL: Peter and the Test Tube Babies frontman Peter Bywaters was actually refused entry into the United States last week. The reason? Because he mocked president Donald Trump by dressing up as him during the band’s Jinx ‘Presidential’ Tour in Germany in 2016.
Team Rock reports that Bywaters was heading to San Francisco to meet his bandmates at the Punk Invasion Festival, but upon arrival, customs and border protection officers took him aside and interrogated hime for the next 6 hours.
Peter tells Team Rock:
“I had only been there 30 seconds when the customs and border control guard swung his screen round and said: ‘Is this you?’
“There in full view was a video from last year’s German tour with me dressed as Donald Trump smoking a fake joint.
“From there it all went down hill. Six hours later I was forcibly escorted to my seat on the plane.”
“Oh well, I expect to still be the singer of Peter & The Test Tube Babies by the end of the year. Will Trump still be president by the end of the summer?
“A US tour or festival will never ever happen again!”
The interrogation led to Bywaters getting his phone and passport taken and before being escorted to his seat on the plane to head back to the UK, he was forced to make a sworn statement.
