We recently had the opportunity to meet up with the emerging alternative artist out of the Philadelphia and South Jersey area, Jxke in an in exclusive All Punked Up Interview. We talked about his powerful debut new single, “fiftyone.”, starting out as a solo artist, and much more
First off, I wanted to congratulate on your recent release of your debut track “fiftyone”! How are you feeling post release?
thank you! feeling excited, i’ve always been pretty nervous to drop music in past projects, but I was more excited this time around than anything since I haven’t put out anything in over 3 years.
What are you most excited about now that “fiftyone” has been released?
excited to just be back in motion again making music and doing everything that comes along with it. I enjoy the process of all of it, the recording sessions, the photos, making graphics, promo etc. but out of everything, im most excited to hopefully start playing live. its mainly what i make music for. i enjoy bringing people together as is, i’m always trying to schedule hangouts with friends to go to the movies, etc. so being able to do that through music is even better.
What would you say your favorite lyric from “fiftyone” is and why?
“I’ll make sure to see you in another lifetime” because I always often wonder how much different our lives would be in different lifetimes / universes and how it would impact our relationships with others.
For those who may not have heard of your band, can you describe it for us?
I’m currently a solo artist that makes alternative / pop punk music for those like to move around a lot to live music.
What do you feel sets your band apart from other bands in your genre?
I think my vocal style is different from a lot of others in pop punk. I’ve gotten the Tom Delonge thing (which im super humbled by), and I can see it a little, but others say it has a unique twist to it. Aside from that, i’m also straight edge. It’s something I don’t find much when listening to pop punk, as much as it is heard within hardcore.
What is something that you have accomplished so far in your career that you are most proud of?
Im just starting out as a solo artist, so this is day one for me, but in past projects i’ve been most proud to play drums with some of my best friends (Backline, Spiritbreaker, Regrown), as well as play next to some of our favorite bands like The Wonder Years, Have Mercy, Homesafe, Save Face, etc.
If you could set up your tour with any band or singer, who would it be and why?
Turnstile. They are the epitome of live music. I have grown up seeing them live since I was in high school, and have always had the most fun at their live sets. To see where they are at now, while still engaging larger audiences the same way that they did to smaller crowds is something a lot of artists cant accomplish, and they did. How could you not have a blast being on tour with them?
If you could write a song with any band or singer, who would it be?
Blink-182. They were the reason why I got into music in the first place, made friends, made music, etc.
If we were to get in the car with you right now, what song would be listening too?
Probably Racecar by Aries
Just for kicks and giggles: if you could be any kitchen utensil what would you be?
Spoon. Its the most universal utensil if you’re in a crunch because it can also be a knife and a fork if you put your mind to it.
What can fans expect for you in the future?
A lot more singles, hopefully some live shows, and when the time is right an album. But for now, we’re just having fun, getting off my feet a little, gotta put in a lot of work first.
Is there anything else you would like your fans to know?
Thank you for every listen, every share, every interaction you do to support me. I see it all and it doesn’t go unnoticed. I’m constantly working to put out new music, so even just seeing one person listen to my music means the world to me.
