At APU we’ve been thinking about the bands you need to listen to right now. There’s nothing better than discovering new bands and then playing them on repeat all week long. Get your playlists at the ready because it’s time for some fresh music.
Halflives
First up for bands you need to listen to, alternative rock band, Halflives. They serve up a melodic blend of alt-rock with a side of pop and ethereal vocals from Linda Battilani. They first came on the scene in 2017 with their debut record Empty Rooms which touches on themes of heartbreak, love and loss – all delivered through some powerhouse vocals. Fast forward to 2020 and Halflives are about to head out on an EU tour with Icon For Hire and they’re dropping a new single, ‘Hard to Break’ on 28th February. Halflives’ highly anticipated new EP, Resilience, is out now, featuring “Snake” and “Rockstar Everyday”. The EP also features a collaboration with Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens.

fredo disco
fredo disco is a band out of Chicago, IL. Started entirely as a solo project in 2017 for lead singer and guitarist Fredo Fosco. In 2018, the project grew to include four other members, Max King on guitar, Colin Riordan on drums, and Aiden Cada on bass. The band got their name back when it was just Fosco – his last name would auto-correct to “disco”, the name stuck. Their sound can be described as indie pop-punk. If you like Young Culture, Chase Huglin, Hot Mulligan or Mat Kerekes’ solo project, you’ll probably be a fan of these guys. The songs that these guys produce are catchy, easy to listen to, and they put on a great live show. Their debut album, titled Very Cool Music for Very Cool People was released in 2018. These guys are definitely up and coming and will continue to grow and discover their sound. Additionally, they have a great relationship with their fans. After sets they will meet them at their merch table, they interact with fans on Twitter and Instagram, and are even doing “Fredo Fridays” on Instagram live, where Fosco plays songs and chats with the fan base. They are set to tour this summer with Hot Mulligan and Heart Attack Man, so be sure to check them out and maybe snag a ticket (granted, the show goes on).

Seconds To Say
I found this band on Instagram when they released their track “By My Side”. They have the typical “pop punk” sound and they put out an awesome cover of Post Malone’s, “Circles”. I look forward to seeing how far this band goes in the future and hope one day to see them live.
