Blink-182 give criticizing fans what they wanted in “Generational Divide”

By June 21, 2019June 23rd, 2019No Comments

There’s no harder fanbase to please than Blink-182’s.

After releasing their first single this year, “Blame It On My Youth”, fans took to social media with negative feedback and critical comments on how the bands’ sound has changed and how they’ve lost their, “punk sound”, which is clearly untrue.

Today, Blink-182 lashed back by releasing their second single, “Generational Divide”, which is a fast, catchy punk rock song lasting a mere 51 seconds. The song, which is a complete 180-from BIOMY, sent fans into a frenzy today.

To be honest, this was such a punk move by the band. After so many complaints and demanding some fresh punk rock, Mark Hoppus and company decided to give the fans what they wanted, but in a hilarious way lyrically.

Take a look at the lyrics below:

Is it better? Is it better now?

Are we better? Are we better now?

Is it better? Is it better now?

Are we better? Are we better now?

All I needed was a lifeline.

We swore we’d be better than the last time.

Donate, tell me that you’re alright.

I’m not the generational divide.

The lyrics are cryptic in a way. The lines, “Is it better, are we better now?”, are a reference to the band going back on a traditional punk sound. It’s asking the fans, “Is this better? Are you satisfied?” Not to mention, Matt Skiba’s verse, “We swore we’d be better than the last time.”, seems to reference the negative feedback to 2016’s California.

You did well, Blink-182. This was an amazing tactic to combat the negative fans.

Do what you do best.
