Keep up with Bury The Darkness on your favorite social Media platform:
First, I wanted to congratulate you on your upcoming release of “SUFFOCATE“, how are you feeling about the release?
Marc: We are all extremely excited about our upcoming release! This is our first release in over a year and our first one with our new drummer Devin. We are all huge fans of metalcore and have been wanting to write a metalcore song since we started the band back in 2019.
We went all out with this release and got some of the best people in our local scene to work on it from production to the music video. Ryan Daminson (Memphis May Fire, Asking Alexandria, The Word Alive) produced it and Lance Gergar (Halocene, Rain City Drive) directed the music video. We are absolutely thrilled to share our vision with you all!

Where did you you get the inspiration for “SUFFOCATE“?
Marc: We got inspiration from our daily lives. We’re all in our mid-twenties and dealing with overwhelming situations like jobs, money, relationships etc. We are trying to do the band full-time but we aren’t there yet so it’s a juggling act to give everything the attention it deserves.
To me, It’s about how easy it is to get sucked in by comfort and crushed by the harsh reality of corporate culture. To me, it’s an anthem to believe in yourself and do what you think is right, despite what everyone else thinks.
Jared: we all had different contributions lyrically and I organized them into a song that expressed different kinds of frustrations we’re all experiencing currently.
Devin: We got the inspiration for SUFFOCATE just really from the whole metalcore genre. We wanted to put something together with some real heavy verses and a nice clean chorus that’s still just a banger through out the entire song, with the addition of a kick ass break down.
Who inspired the band’s musical inspiration?
Marc: The bands musical inspiration is truly a melting pot of genres. Jared, Brandon, and I have a background in classical music. They were both in choir and I was in orchestra. We go from listening to classical to 80s rock to trap metal to straight up death-core. For the band, we want to create music that is a commercial success but also a fan-favorite.
We enjoy diversity and don’t want every song to sound the same. Bring Me The Horizon is a huge influence on us because they don’t care what people think they should make. They make what they like and are one of the most successful bands in modern metal.
If you could do a collaboration with anyone who would it be and why?
Marc: A dream collab for me would be with Oli Sykes from BMTH and Corey Taylor from Slipknot. Both top tier vocalists that have had a huge impact on the scene and my life.
If you could select any band(s) to go on tour with you, who would you select to go with you?
Marc: Would be a dream come true to go on tour with Bring Me The Horizon! We have become friends with some other amazing bands in the Arizona scene such as DED and Dropout Kings. That would be an amazing tour to go on because they are all such good dudes and amazing musicians!
What is one of your favorite memories about being on tour?
Marc: We actually haven’t gone on tour yet! Cannot wait for that day though. It’s been a dream of mine to go on tour since I was a young kid playing guitar and singing in my backyard. Performing shows is definitely my favorite part of being in a band. There’s no better feeling than stepping on stage and getting to perform your music to a hyped up crowd!
Just for kicks and giggles, If you could be any fruit or veggie, what would it be and why?
Marc: This is an amazing question. I’ve honestly never really thought about this before haha. I would say pear because it’s the most slept on fruit. Nobody ever talks about pears but they slap!
Devin: I would like to be a banana because monkeys are my favorite animals and I would help to keep them strong and happy and thriving in this world. I would like to teach a monkey how to play drums some day and hopefully manage a band of chimps.
What can we expect in the future from you?
Marc: You can expect consistent releases all of 2023! We are working on our debut album right now and every song on it can be a single. We have built an amazing team with the best people which have become some of our best friends. We are striving to be one of the biggest bands in metal and want to bring fans the highest quality content we can!
Is there anything else that you would like your fans to know?
Marc: We are an open book and love communicating with our fans! It makes my day when I see a DM from a fan who tells us they love our music or our music has helped them through a difficult time. We can’t wait to meet you all at a BTD show sometime in the future in your city!
