Driveways is a pop punk/post hardcore band from Saugus, MA, who have made plenty of noise in the scene over the years. They’ve made their mark with over two million Spotify listeners with their punk rendition of Lil Uzi Vert’s “XO Tour Llif3” and “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X. They have annihilated any competition in regards to creativity and original sound.
With their talents being shown in remixes, Driveways have extended their talents with their latest EP, Epilogues.
In comparison to their previous tracks, this EP is a game changer for the band. With a mix of melancholy lyrics, intricate guitar riffs, and new-wave synths, Driveways have displayed a new talent in breaking trends of modern punk rock and post hardcore music.
Adding Synthesizers and emo-rap makes the difference
In tracks such as ‘456’ and ‘Thirteen Years Later’, the band uses a concoction of emo-rap and midwest-emo to create an anthemic atmosphere surrounded by synthesizers to get emphasize their message to listeners across different genres. There is no exact pinpoint of a genre with these songs, but when put into a collection they equal up to a new wave-post hardcore masterpiece.
It’s almost like Nothing,Nowhere, Finch, and Hawthorne Heights all had a baby and this was their successor.
Going back to their roots proves their versatility
However, they do go back to their faster punk rock vibes with tracks such as ‘Sirens III’ and ‘Chaos Again’. The change-up to dynamic drum tracks and fast guitar riffs really create the picture of this bands’ versatility and ability to experiment but stay true to the scene.
Not only does the music sound good, but the lyrics of each song flow smoothly and create the big picture of what this band is all about; reminiscing about exes, thinking about your old life, and moving on from heartache and pain.
Driveways truly knows how to speak to an audience and it’s clear with Epilogues.
