Fall Out Boy has shared a unique cover of Billy Joel’s iconic song, “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” But this is no ordinary cover. The band took Joel’s original version and gave it a contemporary twist by updating the references from 1989 to 2023.
Lead vocalist Patrick Stump skillfully tackles an array of modern cultural touchstones, echoing Joel’s rapid-fire delivery. From mentioning pop culture phenomena like Harry Potter and Twilight to reminiscing about Tom DeLonge finding aliens and the chaotic Woodstock ’99 festival, Fall Out Boy manages to capture the essence of the changing times.
Currently amidst their North American tour, Fall Out Boy will perform tonight in Dallas alongside Bring Me The Horizon and Daisy Grenade. Fans attending future shows can look forward to hearing this exceptional cover, while they continue to rock various cities throughout the summer. The tour will conclude on August 6 in Camden, New Jersey, allowing the band to take their music overseas.
Don’t miss out on Fall Out Boy’s revamped rendition of “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” Give it a listen below and let the band transport you through time, bridging the gap between past and present. Enjoy!
