According to Billboard, Fall Out Boy has made a comeback on the Billboard Hot 100 with their update of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” The song debuted at No. 94 on the chart, fueled by 4.7 million streams, 767,000 radio audience impressions, and 9,000 downloads. This is the band’s first entry on the Hot 100 as a lead act since 2016’s “Irresistible”. Fall Out Boy now has a total of 21 Hot 100 hits, with their highest-charting song being “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race” peaking at No. 2 in 2007.

The new version of “We Didn’t Start the Fire” by Fall Out Boy is also performing well on various rock and alternative charts. It jumped from No. 44 to No. 6 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart in its second week. Additionally, it debuted at No. 3 on the Hot Alternative Songs chart and No. 5 on the Hot Rock Songs chart. The song also reached No. 1 on the Rock Digital Song Sales and Alternative Digital Song Sales charts.

The release of Fall Out Boy’s version has also sparked renewed interest in Billy Joel’s original 1989 song. Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” entered the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart at No. 21, thanks to increased streams and sales. The song was originally a chart-topper in 1989, and now it’s finding success once again.

It’s worth noting that Fall Out Boy’s revamp of “We Didn’t Start the Fire” has granted Billy Joel his first Hot 100 writing credit since the Glee cast’s cover of his hit song “Uptown Girl” in 2011.
