Flight Club talk new EP and more

By November 25, 2019No Comments

Flight Club is a rock band who just released a new EP, Recreational Love, via Open Your Ears Records.

We got the chance to catch up with the band to talk about the new EP and more, see what they had to say below.

APU: It’s been about a week since Recreational Love has been released, how has the reaction been from fans?
Flight Club: It’s been wonderful having fans that care enough to listen to the music and tell us what the think. They’re the reason we continue to make music and we have received more love than we could have hoped for.

APU: Your single “Discount Drugs” is a gritty rock track which shows your ability to stay diverse throughout your EP, how do you keep all of your creative ideas organized?
FC: All five of us listen to very different music. We all have a different creative process too on a personal level so when we write together we hope the listener can hear each influence but have the songs stay cohesive.

APU: The lyrics throughout Recreational Love have a relatable feeling, where do you pull inspiration for your lyrics?
FC: Most of the lyrics for the songs are meant to bring out a down but not out vibe. Life gets hard as we grow and change but its refreshing to know that you aren’t alone in this and everything will be okay if you give love. That feeling really inspired the lyrics for our songs.

APU: Is there any track you would say stands out the most for off the EP?
FC: “Strangers After” is a song that isn’t a typical flight club song. Alex wrote this song over a span of many years starting in high school. Its meant to be a conversation with yourself and then the perspective changes in the second half of the song to be looking outward on a different person. “Strangers After” is one of the songs that matured as Alex did and we hope that it presented a new vibe that Flight Club hadn’t touched on before.

APU: What message would you like listeners to take away Recreational Love?
Servant leadership is a big thing for us. Charlie often says “be the crowd you want to see.” That really helped us write for Recreational Love because we hope the listener can feel that they are loved and then hopefully be able to reflect that light into their life.

APU: As 2019 is coming to an end, what can fans and new listeners expect from you?
FC: We’re excited to be working with Open Your Ears Records to have a very exciting 2020 and hope that everyone sticks around for it!
