Alternative/Pop band from San Jose, California, Goldview, released their their latest EP Chapters of an Open Heart, March 10th. The three track EP dives into the emotions that are developed throughout the course of a relationship. Chapters of an Open Heart was written in a way to show fans the transparent accounts of love and struggles that fans can reach on a personal level.

When discussing the inspiration of  Chapters of an Open Heart, lead vocalist Trevor Schmidt shared:

“These songs represent the different types of relationships that people could experience. They could range from toxic, healthy, to great. Relationships are complex and these songs explore that.”

Whether you are a fan of the pop or punk sound this EP will grab your attention and you can easily relate to them. I found this EP to be one that can be easily on repeat throughout the day.

“Believe” is the first song of the EP. The mixes of pop to rock sounds it pulls you right in. Lyrically I fell in love with the lines

“I didn’t ask to feel this way
I’m holding on so tight to your faith”

For anyone who has ever met someone in the most unexpected way and the relationship turned out better than you expected, or even just trying to connect to a dream or goal; you can easily relate to the lyrics of this song.

“Chemical” is the second song of the EP. For me, this was one of the easiest songs to relate too and hit very close to home. Anyone who has ever been through a toxic or a dysfunctional relationship (ex: romantic, friends, family, etc) can relate to this song.

Lyrically I feel the chorus ties the whole theme and emotion to the song perfectly:

“There’s no right way to protect myself
Holding my breath till you come around
We are dysfunctional
Hooked on this chemical”

“Brave” is the last song on the EP, and I believe ends it on the best note. “Brave” gives off such a happy feel throughout the whole song, even if lyrically its more on the darker side. “Brave” talks about the courage and working towards something great.

Bassist Nahan Huyhn stated the following about the song:

“Perhaps having courage and being brave could guide someone through a tough relationship. The idea of being ‘Brave’ could be applicable to anything you do in life, such as chasing a goal or dream. It is not necessarily positive, but embarks on the willingness to do something great.”
