Halflives release new EP, ‘Resilience’-review

By March 25, 2020No Comments

Paris pop-rockers, Halflives, dropped their new EP, Resilience this month and we’re here for it.  The 5-track EP is experimental with each song offering something different.  Back in February, we interviewed lead vocalist, Linda Battilani about the main inspirations for Resilience and she said, “Frustration, anger and the need to prove myself worthy surely inspired me a lot lyrics-wise”.

Linda also cites Alice Merton, Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish as her main inspirations for the record – a diverse selection of sounds that reflect effortlessly in the EP.  Halflives are unapologetic with their new sound and there’s no doubt that it translates well on stage.

Resilience opens with an unmistakable pop-rock track, ‘Rockstar Everyday’.  The chorus is catchy and has us wishing for summer.  We can just imagine driving down a highway singing, ‘I wish I was a Rockstar, living in L.A, driving in my fast car, far away.’

‘Snake’ is a story of karma and the personification of the song’s namesake is cleverly used in the lyrics with pop undertones – whoever this song is about, might want to think about hiding!

Track #3 is pop-punk meets Billie Eilish, featuring an exciting collaboration with Sleeping With Sirens’ Kellin Quinn.  ‘Time Bomb’ has a heavier element, with Kellin’s guest vocals meeting a crescendo as he screams, ‘tick tock, tick tock, tick tock’, towards the end of the track.  Admittedly, we have lost count of how many times we’ve listened to this song.

‘One Bad Day’ gives us an upbeat alt-pop vibe, coupled with emotive lyrics that paint a very real picture of how mental health can affect people.

The EP finishes with ‘Hard to Break’, an uplifting and inspiring anthem that you should definitely listen to if you’re in need of a pick-me-up.

Resilience is short and sweet and leaves us wanting more – we’re keen to see what Halflives do next.
