Headspace talk their new single, the recording process, and more -EXCLUSIVE

By July 16, 2019No Comments

There’s nothing better than a proper, anthemic emo-band. If you’re looking for a collected group of individuals who know the scene and who can write a powerful song, Headspace is the perfect band for you.

Headspace is an emo/pop punk band from Arizona, who have been taking over the airwaves recently with their new single, “Feel Something”. They’re a band who practice what they preach and understand what the scene is about, which is portrayed perfectly through their music.

All Punked Up had an opportunity to talk with the band about their new hit, the emo scene in Arizona, and more. Scroll below to read what they have to say!

Q. You guys have been pretty active this summer. You just released an anthemic new single, “Feel Something” and have been featured on some of the hottest Spotify playlists. How has the reaction been to the new song from your fans and new listeners alike?
A. The response to “Feel Something” has been incredible. Some of our new fans called it an “emo love song” and we thought that was pretty spot on! We tried a little something different when writing this song so we are ecstatic our fans have taken to it and show it so much love.
Q. Now, emo/pop punk isn’t necessarily popular in the desert states, as the midwest has been claiming to be the breeding grounds nowadays. How has the scene been treating you, in respect to your own views, out in Arizona?
A. The pop punk scene out here in Phoenix is really great! There is a ton of great bands out here, so two Pennsylvania transplants fit right in here.
Q. In your biography, you claim that you want your music to, “allow one to feel anything while listening; happiness, sadness, pain, sorrow, accomplishment.” Can you tell me a little more about the recording process and what you do to achieve that?
A. In regards to our recording process, we don’t feel like we do anything differently from other bands. The sound we achieve is just seems to come out from genuine experiences we both or one of us have gone through. When people can relate to our music and feel something (see what I did there lol) that just makes this grueling process that much sweeter.
Q. You also claim that you have a second EP coming at the end of this year! What can people expect out of that?

A. We do! We are currently in the process of recording an ep with Blake from Oh, Weatherly. It’s going to feature five songs that are going to be a more complete sound. These songs are going to be some the most personal songs we will end up releasing at that point.

Q. What made you all come together and want to make music? A lot of bands do it as a fun gig but then it soon kicks off as a full-time job. What was your start like and how has the journey been?
A. Derek: When I started Headspace initially I thought it was for myself and a way to cope with this dark place I had been inside of for 3 years. But as it turns out, I’ve since realized I started it because of a girl I used to talk to in high school that LOVED pop punk. It was a way to get her attention. Along the way we got attention from a lot more than just her and now this is where we are! Ted joined in about a year later and Zach about a year after Ted. We all vibe so well together and we do the dumbest stuff and make the best of every second with each other.

Q. Finally, what does the future look like for Headspace? What would you like to achieve?
A. Ted: when I joined the band, I was doing it for fun at first, but soon realized that we had something special we could actually make it happen with the right amount of work. Come to find out, I was right. We aren’t the biggest band by any means, but we are growing and working harder than ever to make something happen for us.
