England pop-rockers Hot Milk are stoked to perform on this year’s Sad Summer Fest tour.
The dual-fronted band has been taking the world by storm with their emo-pop singles. In 2020, Hot Milk’s banger single “Candy Coated Lie$” got a sick remix with the help of Mitch Collins of lovelytheband and Mark Hoppus of Blink-182. Most recently, Hot Milk dropped the tracks “Bad Influence” & “Teenage Runaways”.

Your latest tracks “Teenage Runaway” & “Bad Influence” are bangers! I am pumped to hear the rest of your record The King and Queen of Gasoline when it drops in August. What were some of the inspirations for the album? What were some challenges you faced while writing & recording it?
HAN – Mannn, we got to rock bottom and had to build ourselves back up. It’s a conceptual record based in our dark truths. We were living a little bit too close to the wire, too flammable… everything was so close to being ruined ’cause we were just self sabotaging over and over. We dubbed ourselves the King n Queen of almost fucking up, the King and Queen of Gasoline… makin’ everything just that little bit too flammable. Inspirations wise… we’ve just written what came out… songs we wanna play, powerful moments and powerful feelings.
JIM – We wrote most of this record in the space of a month and as usual we recorded and produced it ourselves… it makes everything a lot harder as its hours and hours in the studio and everything you hear has been done by our hands. It’s a real labour of love and honestly it becomes a very thin line towards hating what were doing. This record nearly destroyed us but we now feel as though it will be our making.
What are you looking forward to on this year’s Sad Summer Fest tour?
HAN – Seeing our US chaos club fam & showing them how we fuckin’ do it. Otherwise… Summer. Warmth. The Sun. Beers. Some mad mushrooms, they were mad and we laughed about the fact Jim had thumbs for ages.
Which cities/venues are you most excited about performing at?
JIM – I’ve wanted to perform at The Rave for ages, ever since I started watching band docs that was right up there but honestly, everywhere and anywhere new is magic to all of us.
What are some similarities & differences between touring the U.S and touring Europe?
HAN – Nah man US is the wild west. You’re on your own out in the US, your band vs. the world. Different vibes for sure. We love each other for different reasons but you gotta strap in for a US tour coz stuff can get hairy. It makes it exciting though. I love the drama of it and livin’ a bit dangerously.
If you could write and record a new song with anyone on the Sad Summer Fest lineup, who would you work with and why?
HAN – Anyone with a kind heart that wants a good time. For me it’s about the connection, not who someone is and I can’t be fucked working with someone if it isn’t a joyous process.
What was the best concert you ever attended?
JIM – When we supporting the Foo Fighters in Scotland, a real lesson of class & fuckin talent… we were surrounded by friends and family too. It was so special.
What songs have you had on repeat lately?
JIM – I’m quite diverse….
- Hastings – “Hurt my Feelings”
- Harry Styles – “Late Night Talking”
- FINNEAS – “A Concert Six Months From Now”
- Nightly – “on your sleeve “
- Holly Humberstone – “Sleep Tight”
- Waterparks – “FUNERAL GREY”
- ONE OK ROCK – “Save Yourself”
