Just Seconds Apart talks touring with Jake Miller and future plans

By June 6, 2019No Comments

“Music has always been a part of our lives. We started piano when we were three and got instruments for our eighth birthday. From there, everything sort of happened naturally,” said Just Seconds Apart, a band comprised of three triplets.

Opening for Jake Miller, the band hit the road this spring. As an opening act, performances can always be a hit-or-miss with fans. However, Just Seconds Apart held their own as the first act of the night at Gramercy Theater. It was clear, though, that the band was underappreciated by the fans. While Just Seconds Apart gave off an amazing vibe, full of energy, radiance, and warmth, the fans under-received that enthusiasm, but were still fully engaged and trying to be supportive.

The role of an opening act isn’t always easy, but the band said: “Touring with Jake Miller is incredible. He and his team are great to work with and the energy at each show is electric.”

As they moved through the show, Just Seconds Apart fully owned their power. I was amazed at the way they were able to provide a new take on the traditional pop-band energy. I was curious to hear what inspired this band, being so young. “We derive inspiration from many things,” they said. “Movies, songs, paintings, and being out on the road. Being in new places and around new people day in and day out sparks a lot of new ideas.”

And from these inspirations, I caught a sort of slick, sly, and flirtatious demeanor from the way they held themselves on stage. Nothing of malice or negativity, but of a recognizable talent and electric notion. Just Seconds Apart said they look up to artists like John Mayer, Julia Michaels, and The 1975. From their sound, none of these surprised me, but from what I experienced that night, I would equate them to a feeling of Walk the Moon.

Much like the bands before them, Just Seconds Apart has big plans for themselves. “Our goals as a band are to have our songs be household names, tour in arenas, and to have longevity,” they noted.

With the right persistence and attitude, I wouldn’t be surprised. After seeing the band live, I believe it can be possible as they continue to grow in this industry. One key aspect of this (now more than ever) is social media, but the band is clearly already aware of this.

“Our favorite part of performing and touring is seeing everyone we interact with on social media in real life and being able to be in the same room together for one night creating memories and experiences we’ll forever remember.” This sort of acknowledgement of their fan base and the special niche place that this has established to bands to grow from proves that Just Seconds Apart is aware of their place in the scene and is eager to grow.

Their music is a collaborative effort, like everything they do. “Sela handles the lyrics, Ari handles the melody and production, and Alex contributes to both, completing the missing elements and polishing the finished product.”  It was easy to see on stage how seamlessly the trio worked together, building off of each other’s energy.

As the band continues to grow, their performance is sure to be polished. They have the right attitude and mindset to make it big and they’re on the edge of getting there. I can’t wait to see what lies in store for them.
