The band kind. has gained a ton of attention since their debut single “Daylight.” They just released their latest single, “Fall”, which is another absolute banger. Be sure to check out “Fall” by watching the video above!

kind. is a new-kind-of-band, if you get what I mean. The members joined forces after their previous bands didn’t survive the chaos of the pandemic. With various musical backgrounds in play, kind. is preparing to be the next big thing in the scene.

We were lucky enough to sit down with Nick Cervone, the band’s drummer, to chat about the formation and mission of kind., as well as their plans for the future.

You formed kind as your previous bands crumbled to the pandemic. What style of music were your previous bands? What did each member bring to the table in terms of style, creativity, and musicianship?

“The music styles of previous bands ranged from metalcore to post hardcore, all the way to emo pop-punk. The style and creativity brought to the table by each member runs very deep and is all very unique.  In addition to musicianship, each member presents their history as an artist in the way they write and perform their parts.  Brandon’s heavy pop background is the perfect catalyst for gigantic, catchy hooks with melodic verses in between.  Jake’s background as a former heavy artist provides his lyrics and guitar parts with that edgy emotional sound you don’t see from every artist.  Additionally, Jake has a keen ear for harmonies to enrich vocal parts.  Hawke with his wealth of bass knowledge brings an almost jazz inspired approach to his rich and full basslines.  I, being the base of the group behind the drum kit, can accommodate the vibe of any song with his diversity, having played so many different styles.  His ability to switch up the vibe of the drums depending on the song is unique.”

How long has everyone been a member of a band/creating music for?

“Pretty much since middle school.  Between the four members of kind. not a year has passed since 2010 that one member hasn’t been in a band, creating or performing original music.”

Your goal seems to be to span the genres from rock to catchy pop. What kind of artists have inspired you to span the musical genre spectrum like this?

“Trying to capture and hone in on such a diverse range of genres, kind. has drawn inspiration from a long list of creative artists.  These include The Killers, Dayseeker, 5 Seconds Of Summer, All Time Low, ETC.”

Where do you hope to see the band be in the next year? Next 5 years?

“The dream is to be performing live in front of people.  We hope to be in the next year performing professionally and over the next 5 years evolving the performance itself to include a more captivating, exciting experience.”

If you could create a short slogan for your band’s motto, what would it be and why?

“‘Music for everyone, especially you.’ We really do think through every part of our music and releases, and how to make it as enjoyable for everyone that we can.”

What do you hope people will enjoy most about your music?

“The creativity and the history.  We want people to hear the history and camaraderie among the four members when they listen to kind.”

What artists have you had on repeat lately?

“Yvette Young, Underoath, Joywave.”

Is there anything else you want to share with your fans or All Punked Up readers about “Fall” or your band in general?

“We hope “Fall” brings you guys some joy whenever you listen to it!”
