Emmy-winning producer and music journalist Mike Henneberger will be releasing his first memoir Rock Bottom At The Renaissance: An Emo Kid’s Journey Through Falling In And Out Of Love In And With New York City next month.
Henneberger has worked with Comedy Central, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Spin, and Vice. His mixtape memoir has many alternative and emo songs as the chapter titles. These tracks represent each chapter’s story (or they were just on while he was writing). Either way, the lyrics of these songs fit seamlessly within his stories. The book takes place in a hotel room where Henneberger navigates his drug-addled mind but reflects mainly on his past. It takes readers through his quest for true love and happiness. Rock Bottom At The Renaissance showcases music’s power to get us through the hardest moments in life.

AJ Perdomo of The Dangerous Summer shared his praise of the book in a recent press release:
“I think it’s a very emotional journey where you’re therapeutically realizing it’s all about you, everything at the end of the day, in this book is like, you’re looking at these outside people, you’re trying to draw on stuff from them, but really all of the emotions are inside you, and you’re kinda creating your own fireworks show insider yourself, meanwhile, using everyone else as props for your little beautiful fireworks show that you’re creating.”
The Dangerous Summer, Jimmy Eat World, Alkaline Trio, and The Wonder Years are among the bands used throughout the story. When you read the book, be sure to listen to the songs that each chapter presents. It will change the way you read it for sure.
