Pop-rock band Morning In May have released of their debut album, Dead Set Slander, independently released, October 14th.

Dead Set Slander laces together 11 different powerhouse tracks, that helps showcase the band’s growth throughout their career. Each of the songs tell a story of confidence draped in frenzied melodies that highlight diversity.

While talking about the album the band stated:

“This album is our way of approaching a growing problem in a different light. I feel like artist have been talking about their problems for decades. This album takes on the next step. Conditioning a better life. Telling yourself you’re worthless conditions that behavior. So I wrote some positive, “this is me” “no one’s above me” lines that if you say enough times. You might just start believing it.”

Morning in May did not disappoint with their debut release.

First off, there are many things I love about Morning in May, but one of my favorites is the fact they try to break the social norms. They brought out a such a positive vibe throughout this whole album and I am all for it.  I found myself wanting to listen Dead Set Slander more and more while going through a tough patch and it was on repeat for days! You can pick up the passion this band has for their music as you listen through each of their songs.

From the naming of the songs to the melodies, I believe this album brings you back to the early 2000’s emo/pop-punk days where you want to roll down your windows driving with the music up loud singing on the top of your lungs.

One of my favorite songs from the album is “Jake From State Farm Ruined My Life“. This song has such a fun and catchy sound that everything time it came on I found myself wanting to dance around the room.  I also found it stuck in my head often and keeping bringing back the nostalgia of my angsty period in life, I mean we all know we had one.

After hearing Lead Singer Jake Bartolic’s explaining history of the song, it made me love it even more. He stated:

I wanted to write a song about the actuality of all of the “get drunk and be free songs” no glitz and glamour. Just a fun song about what’s really about to take place after a show. The song was inspired by an LA party our drummer Andrew and I got escorted out of for climbing a support tower to get a better look at celebrities that were there like Ice T. “

While, I don’t want to give away too much about this album, as could go on and on about it. I highly I encourage you to give this album a listen all the way through as soon as possible with no skips and get your on thoughts on it!

Morning in May will also be on tour late October through early November supporting pop-punk trio Makeout. Don’t forget to check them out. Tickets are now available.
