ICYMI: Artists need to stop shitting themselves on stage + A classic butt rock band reuniting + Emo re-enters the Hot 100

ICYMI: The Starting Line is ridiculously overrated…

TikTok Launches Emerging Artist Program Elevate. TikTok has launched ‘Elevate,’ a program aimed at supporting emerging artists by promoting them within the app and sponsoring in-person events. The inaugural class includes CHINCHILLA, Sam Barber, Omar Courtz, Isabel LaRosa, Kaliiii, and Lu Kala, representing diverse genres and backgrounds, both signed and unsigned. The program will offer in-app promotion through musicontiktok handles and host concerts in the artists’ hometowns until October. This move is part of TikTok’s expansion into the music business, including the recent launch of TikTok Music, a subscription-based service in Brazil and Indonesia. Additionally, the company’s music distribution service, SoundOn, helps independent artists get their music on various streaming platforms. TikTok’s unique discoverability and fan engagement set Elevate apart from similar programs on other platforms, making it an exciting opportunity for emerging talents. Further details about the program will be revealed in the coming months.

Elon Musk Says Twitter Will Soon Change Its Logo to ‘X’. And only because it’s one of the main ways bands and fans can interact with each other, it’s worth mentioning. Elon Musk announced his plan to change Twitter’s logo from the famous blue bird to an “X”. He aims to implement the change worldwide as soon as Monday. Musk has a history with the letter “X,” having used it for his companies SpaceX and X.com, now known as PayPal. However, the move was met with criticism on Twitter, with many users finding it confusing and a sign of the unwinding of the iconic brand. Additionally, Twitter is facing competition from Meta’s new app, Threads, which attracted 100 million sign-ups in its first five days of launch.

Spotify to raising subscription price in the United States. Spotify will raise the price of its individual subscription in the United States by $1.00, from $9.99 to $10.99. The move was widely anticipated, as Spotify executives expressed their eagerness to raise prices without deterring customers. The company has maintained the $9.99 price since its launch in the US in 2011, except for a previous increase in its family plan in 2021. Additionally, Spotify’s Premium Duo plan will increase by $2.00 to $14.99 per month, its Family plan will go up $1.00 to $16.99, and its Student plan will rise by $1.00 to $5.99. The decision to raise prices likely stems from negotiations with major music industry stakeholders. Assuming the increase doesn’t lead to subscriber churn, it is expected to boost top-line revenues and improve music gross margins, potentially adding around $200 million in incremental annual revenue, according to JPMorgan Chase analysts.

Chvrches’ Lauren Mayberry Announces First Solo Tour. The singer announced that she will embark on her first solo tour, starting in North America in September and later moving to the United Kingdom and Europe in the fall. As the 10th anniversary of Chvrches’ debut album, “The Bones of What You Believe,” approaches, Mayberry expressed her gratitude to her bandmates and fans for their support over the years. She also revealed that she has been working on her first-ever solo music and will be sharing it with the world soon. Mayberry expressed a mix of excitement, fear, and bewilderment about this new venture.

The Touring Business Is Booming — But Problems Linger for Smaller Acts. Touring for small and mid-range acts has evolved from an emotional nightmare during the pandemic to a booming and healthy business. However, the surge in artists hitting the road in 2023 has caused supply-and-demand challenges, particularly with vehicles and crew. Difficulty in procuring buses, especially on short notice, remains a significant issue due to a shortage of drivers and increased demand. Prices for vehicles and crew have risen substantially, impacting tour budgets. Despite the challenges, artists are finding ways to adapt, with some even starting their own bus-rental companies to mitigate costs. While the touring industry is showing signs of recovery, some managers remain cautiously optimistic about its economic future.

Ronnie Radke Gets Brutally Honest With Falling in Reverse Openers. And I have to say, his response is correct… Falling in Reverse’s Ronnie Radke gave honest advice to the local band Become the Apex, who won the chance to open for Falling in Reverse at an upcoming show. The band was unhappy with their starting time and asked for Radke’s help stating: “Hey Ronnie Radke my band won a battle of the bands to open up for you on July 26th in Idaho (X-Fest) & they’re telling us they want us to start our set 15 minutes after doors. Now we’re a bunch of nobodies, but could the GOAT help us out.” Radke responded that they needed to earn their stripes and be content with the time slot offered. Despite his firm stance, he also offered assurance and said he would personally come to watch them perform if they were concerned about the audience.

blink-182’s U.S. reunion tour with Tom DeLonge is their highest-grossing ever. Blink-182’s recent U.S. reunion tour has become the highest-grossing tour of their career, with over half a million tickets sold and an average of 15,664 fans attending each show. The North American leg of the tour concluded in Nashville, grossing an impressive $85.3 million. The band will continue their tour in other parts of the world, with shows scheduled until April next year. Fans are hopeful for new music from the band following their comeback single “EDGING” in October 2022.

The Cure break touring records despite Robert Smith’s push for low ticket prices. Speaking of successful tours, despite frontman Robert Smith’s efforts to lower ticket prices, The Cure’s latest tour, Shows Of A Lost World, broke records as their highest-grossing and best-attended tour in the US and Canada. The 35-date tour, which began in May, grossed $37.5 million and sold over 547,000 tickets. The three-night residency at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and the Madison Square Garden stop were particularly popular, bringing in millions in revenue and selling tens of thousands of tickets. These achievements make the tour The Cure’s best-selling and highest-grossing in their 45-year career, surpassing their previous record set during the 1992 North American Wish tour.

Creed announce reunion, first shows since 2012. Creed has officially confirmed their reunion, with the original members Brian Marshall, Scott Phillips, Scott Stapp, and Mark Tremonti coming together for their first shows since December 2012. The band will perform on the Summer of ’99 Cruise, which will take place from April 18 to April 22, 2024, sailing from Miami, FL, to Nassau, Bahamas aboard the Norwegian Pearl. Pre-sale registrations for the cruise festival are now open.

Marilyn Manson to Plead No Contest to Blowing His Nose on Videographer. Marilyn Manson is expected to plead no contest to one charge of simple assault for blowing his nose on a videographer during a 2019 concert in New Hampshire. Prosecutors plan to dismiss the other charge in the negotiated plea. If accepted by the judge, Manson would face a $1,200 fine with part of it suspended, 20 hours of community service within six months, and would need to remain arrest-free for two years. Manson’s lawyer stated that any contact related to spitting or sneezing was unintentional and that the alleged victim consented to exposing herself to potential bodily fluid contact in her line of work. Manson has faced other abuse accusations in recent years, which he denies.

Hayley Williams & Fall Out Boy Hit Billboard Hot 100 Chart With Taylor Swift. Fall Out Boy and Hayley Williams from Paramore have both entered the US Billboard Hot 100 chart with their collaborations on Taylor Swift’s recent album, ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’. Hayley appears on ‘Castles Crumbling’, debuting at No. 31, marking her third appearance on the chart. Fall Out Boy is featured on ‘Electric Touch’, also debuting at No. 35, with their highest charting track being ‘This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race’ in 2006. Paramore will be joining Taylor Swift on her Europe and UK tour next summer, performing in various cities including Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff, and London.
