On the record with… lovelytheband’s Mitchy Collins

By April 9, 2023April 13th, 2023No Comments

In this week’s interview, Tyler and John sit down with lovelytheband’s frontman Mitchy Collins. Beyond sharing his biggest gig pet peeves, the discussion centers around the band’s massive success with their hit single “broken”. Spending 76 weeks on the Alternative Billboard chart, the song set a Billboard record at that time, only to be later broken by All Time Low’s “Monsters”. Mitchy shares the irony behind this and reflects on the writing process of “broken”, admitting that he initially hated the song after writing it.

The interview also covers the band’s signing to a smaller label, and Mitchy shares a hack he created to get his foot in the music industry. He recounts a session with Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington that played a part in “broken”‘s story just months before his passing. The success of “broken” caused the band to fall into bad habits, as they tried to chase creating hits. Mitchy also discusses their latest track “make me wanna die” and how it relates to his personal struggles.

Toward the end of the interview, they talk about the band’s upcoming album ‘if we’re being honest’, featuring a great collaboration, and their summer tour with Beach Weather. Mitchy also sheds light on the difficulties of dealing with major record labels when it comes to money, and shares his goals for the band’s own label, Happy Accident. Overall, the interview offers an insightful glimpse into the band’s journey so far and their plans for the future.
