Roberts. releases new EP—review

By September 21, 2020No Comments

Roberts. is a midwest artist who has a sound similar to Chase Huglin and This Wild Life, in the sense of acoustic songs with some deep cutting lyrics.

He emerged in 2020, with the release of the fine EP, landing him on the map (and a few playlists, too).

On September 18th, Roberts. released his next EP, a two track mix titled split. The two songs, titled “Goals” and “Bad“, are great songs in their own right, but let’s break down both of them.

Goals” starts with some strong strumming on the guitar, and adds the emotional lyrics in seconds later. The chorus jumps in with some tambourine/shaker action. Overall, the build up of instruments provides a great listening experience, and nothing is too in your face. It adds to the “chill-ness” of the song.

The song might sound chill, but the lyrics hit deep, and those are my favorite part of the song. The song is about witnessing a relationship that is “goals”, and wishing you could have something similar. Personally, it is a message that speaks to me, and is very relatable.

Bad” however, is probably more my favorite than “Goals“, I find it to be more catchy. It is a bit faster, and it’s almost rap-like, and I really enjoy that. The beat from a drum kit, plus the acoustic strumming, the deep cut of the lyrics, and the almost screaming on the chorus just make the song so much more than a song. Roberts. is telling a story, and an emotional one at that. It’s so catchy, and I found myself listening to it on repeat for days.

Both these songs though, are great tracks. With every release we are learning that Roberts. is an artist that can hang with the big dogs. He is just getting started, and the future is bright.
