Rotting Out’s latest album Ronin drops this Friday, April 10th on all streaming platforms. The album comes after the band’s three-year hiatus caused by the 18-month jail sentence of vocalist Walter Delgado for transporting 700 pounds of marijuana.
A lot has happened since the band’s last LP in 2013. Delgado explains that when it came time to write this album, he dug deep into himself and his past.
“There was a lot that was left unspoken and I danced around the darker moments and some were just buried completely. I decided to reopen things that haven’t been open in almost 25 years and look it straight in the face.
I’ve never been more proud of writing this record and nothing was left behind on my end.
Some of these took more out of me than I’d like to admit. Nonetheless, I knew it was time to put it all out there.”

Ronin captures every emotion ever in a headbanging, hardcore way.
Ronin features ten tracks, including singles “Reaper,” “Unforgiven,” and “Stones.” This record features catchy riffs, gnarly drums, killer solos, and a perfect balance between Delgado’s unique screaming styles. The build-up to each breakdown is just epic, especially the moment of silence in “Thief” before and after the “Hah.” It’s such an incredible transition to that drop.
This record is non-stop, hardcore punk album that addresses dark and challenging things from Delgado’s past. It includes short narratives, like the ones in “Prisoner” where Delgado reveals the fear in him and his brother as kids. These narratives are paired with gritty, catchy riffs that make me want to jump in the pit and scream with him!
Each song and song title work together to create a dark feeling. By just looking at the tracklist, listeners get a sense of regret, damage, violence, struggle, and loneliness. If you are looking for something to angrily headbang to, this is your album. I honestly cannot stop jumping and screaming along to this record.
Ronin is the perfect album for Rotting Out’s return to the scene.
