Being a single mother who works full time and a full time student it’s hard to get time to go out with friends. This last weekend I got the opportunity to travel and attend the Sabroso music festival with 5 friends. I can’t think of any other way to spend your Saturday but with your friends, craft beer, tacos and punk music!
Salt Lake City’s fest consisted of 6 different taco stands that had a various types of tacos and 20+ different craft beer vendors from around the area to try for those 21+ from 1-4 pm. You also can’t forget the Lucha Libre wrestling event going on between sets. One of the biggest complaints my friends and I had was on the set up of the beer vendors to the taco stands. We were lucky to have our tacos when we got there because after we got our tacos the lines got so long that the wait for all six stands were there making it feel like they could have used more vendors.
Now for the reason for the fest the music. Sabroso in Salt Lake had the Dwarves, Strung Out, Black Flag, The Vandals, Sum 41, and the Offspring. All were really good performances but my top 3 of the day are:
1. Sum 41
2. The Offspring
3. The Vandals
Salt Lake was the start of Sum 41’s “No Personal Space” tour. I was lucky to see Sum 41 for the second time in a year and it was just amazing as the first, even if the bass was off. The one thing I love about Sum 41 is you can tell they truly love what they do, I don’t think I even saw them stop smiling once on stage. I also love how they interact with the crowd to get their involvement. Sum 41 is one band I don’t think I would get tired seeing live
This was my first time seeing the Offspring and they did not disappoint. In my personal opinion they sound just as good live as they do on their albums. I do appreciate the “rawness” they show on stage, for example lead singer, Dexter Holland, messed up in a song announced that he did apologized and said he hoped no one else noticed.
The Vandals for me one of the funniest sets of the day. They kept the crowd involved and laughing with their jokes and the performance. I enjoyed how they asked the crowd what songs from their 17 albums would they like to hear and would play it. The one thing I found funny was every-time they would announce the song they would be playing they would say “by the Vandals” at the end.
Overall I really enjoyed Sabroso was worth the road trip this last weekend and would consider going back again next year; depending on the line ups. What are some of the music festivals you are excited to attend this summer? I would love to hear your thoughts and considerations of the best ones to attend this summer.
