Nikki Sixx has assembled a group of power stars for a new version of the Sixx:A.M. song “Maybe It’s Time”, originally released in 2016, in support of National Recovery Month. The new rendition of the song features Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, Def Leppard’s Joe Elliot, Brantley Gilbert, Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch, Slash, AWOLNATION, and Tommy Vext. of Bad Wolves.
The song will be part of a music industry-wide effort to draw attention to the opioid crisis while also raising funds for the recovery community. The song’s release is timed to advanced September’s National Recovery Month, which kicks off next Monday, August 31st.
Sixx had the idea to re-record the song and to send all royalties to the Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation to help those in early recovery. Better Noise Music will be making a matching donation to the cause. Sixx states:
“I am proud to bring together these artists to help raise funds for the Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation. The opioid epidemic did not go away when the pandemic came along. Just the opposite. Those in early recovery became even more at risk than before so it’s more important now than ever to raise awareness and support them. I really believe that united we can make a difference and save lives.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a dramatic increase in opioid-related overdoses and deaths according to the Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program, which said overdoses increased by 42% in May as those that struggle with substance use disorders have lost their support systems and became isolated for treatment options.
