We had the chance to catch up with Skyward Story to talk about their debut album Reborn and which crayon they would be in the crayon box!
How did you guys meet and form the band?
Brandon – Scott and I met about seven years ago when his older brother introduced me to him. We started jamming and then a few days later him and I had a band! Then after cycling through a few vocalists we found Aaron on twitter when some random person shared a vine of him singing. We all really clicked so Aaron moved up to Baltimore and here we are.
Are you able to pin point the moment when you realized music is what you wanted to do?
Scott – For me it was the second this band formed. It just felt like what I wanted to do right off the bat.
Aaron – Ever since high school I had wanted to be in a band. I never had any musician friends that I really shared the same vision with so it was cool when I met Brandon and Scott, we all seemed to have the same ideas!
Hypothetically, if this never worked out, if you weren’t performing and playing music, where do you think you’d be right now?
Brandon – Not sure, we focus on this and don’t let anything else distract us. We’re here, so we don’t really think about any other option.
What were your biggest inspirations when writing Reborn?
Scott – Being our debut album, we needed to really define the Skyward Story sound. It took a lot of time, a lot of trial and error – we probably wrote around 30 songs for a 10 song album – but we’re incredibly happy with the product.
Where do you hope you will be 10 years from now?
Aaron – Hopefully, we’ll be in a position where people are celebrating the ten-year-anniversary of Reborn while we’re still releasing new material!
Did any challenges arise while writing and recording Reborn?
Brandon – Honestly, no, which is really cool. Our workflow with our producer Matt Squire was so fluent and effortless. We really didn’t have any days where no progress was made. It was pretty amazing!
Who is one person you have always dreamed of working with?
Aaron – We’ve always thought it would be cool to write with Alex from All Time Low since we draw from the same inspirations and are of course both local to Baltimore. I think we’d write some pretty sick material with him.
You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
Aaron – Wine red, it’s a very mysterious color
Scott – Sky blue just for Skyward Story
Brandon – Are we talking colors available in the 64 pack? Because then I’d choose Tickle Me Pink.
What is one thing you want your fans, as well as the people reading this who are just hearing about you for the first time, to know about Skyward Story?
Brandon – We’re a band that loves nothing more than being interactive with our fans. Our DMs are ALWAYS open so hit us up and ask us questions! Our fans keep us going and allow us to dedicate our lives to the band, so we try to return the favor.
We would like to give a huge thank you to Skyward Story for taking the time to make this interview happen. Their debut album Reborn is available January 18th!
