Music streaming giant, Spotify, has announced a new redesign of its desktop app that promises to simplify the user’s experience. According to a statement released in a blog post yesterday, the revamp, which has been tagged as one of its biggest yet, will be accessible to desktop users worldwide from this week. The redesign promises to make it easier to navigate your content. Notably, the left sidebar, Your Library, has been updated with colorful icons and also includes your recently played music. The bar can be minimized or expanded depending on user preferences.
Users can filter the library sidebar to showcase playlists, artists, and albums specifically, using buttons at the top of the screen. The update also includes a search box that enables users to find the exact song or podcast within their library without the need to search through the whole platform.
Additionally, the app now boasts of a Now Playing view, a feature that allows users to view the current playing podcast or song alongside other information. This information includes extras like podcast episode descriptions, transcripts, tour dates, or merchandise for musicians. The new update has also moved the area where friends’ musical preferences were displayed to the top right corner of the screen. This change follows Spotify’s announcement of a more comprehensive update to its services, with reports that it is preparing to let users upgrade to a more premium tier that could support a much-awaited HiFi streaming feature.
