Sum 41 has officially revealed details about their forthcoming and final album, ‘Heaven :x: Hell’, confirming its anticipated release in Spring 2024.
This LP stands as their eighth studio album and the first full-length release since 2019’s ‘Order in Decline’.
Sum 41 also confirmed that ‘Heaven :x: Hell’ will be their final collective output, as the members intend to part ways following the culmination of their global tour.
Frontman Deryck Whibley recently shared insights about the album’s release and the musical direction fans can expect in an interview with Texas radio station 94.5 The Buzz (via Blabbermouth).
Whibley mentioned, “There’s no release date for it yet… I have a feeling it’ll probably be early next year, kind of like spring. That’s what I think. All that stuff’s being worked out right now.”
Describing the album as a combination of two distinct records, Whibley noted that the ‘Heaven’ side represents their earlier pop-punk style, while the ‘Hell’ side embodies the heavier sound from their recent discography stating, “It’s two totally different records. It’s 10 songs each side. I would call [‘Heaven’] early Sum 41 pop punk, and the ‘Hell’ side is like newer, heavier Sum 41 that we’ve kind of done the past couple of records, that sort of style. I don’t wanna call it metal, but it’s our version of what we do that’s heavy and metal-influenced. Over the years, we’ve done both styles.”
And if you’re hoping for some collaboration with other artists on the upcoming record, don’t hold your breath. Deryk further revealed that while they had considered guest appearances on the album, the songs came together naturally, making additional reworking unnecessary.
