Television Supervision releases new single “Til We Dream” -interview

Television Supervision is the next big thing in alternative music. All Punked Up author Julia sat down with the band to talk about their latest single “Til We Dream.”

Who wrote it?

Zach: “I was just messing around playing my guitar on Brett’s couch.”

Brett: “Zach started playing the music and I immediately thought of prom.”

The mannequins. What was up with that?

Brett: “I prayed about how I would get enough people for a prom video and God answered with mannequins…Getting a girl is super competitive, it was one guy versus twenty dudes.”

Zach: “Plus, most people are fake anyway.”

Brett” “Everybody at Zach’s prom might as well have been a mannequin.”

Zach: “More like homecoming.” (Zach never went to prom!)

What message are you trying to send to your fans about relationships? Any words of advice for that guy or girl scared to make the first move?

Brett: “Shoot your shot and see what sticks.”

Zach: “You got to stand out, find that girl, and go for it.”

Brett: “You have a door open and it might not ever open again. The whole mantra of life should be to risk it.”

Zach: “Risk it to get the biscuit.”

Brett: “The Pillsbury biscuit.”

How often have you made the first move/ How often does it work in your favor? Any words of advice for those fearing or dealing with rejection?

Cody: “Most of the time, I am the one to make the first move. And a lot of the times, it works out, thankfully. But, for the times that it hasn’t, for the people who might be dealing with that rejection…if you think about the world’s population having 7.5 billion people, even if you get rejected by 99% of them, that leaves 75 million people who wouldn’t reject you. To me, that seems like some pretty good odds.

I wouldn’t focus so much on the losers who missed out. You gotta keep your head up and believe in yourself. Typically people will believe in Santa Clause until they’re like 7 or 8… so if you can believe in a large, fat man that comes down your chimney to give you presents every year for seven years, just try to believe in yourself for that minute it’s going to take you to walk over there. Just send it. And if it doesn’t work out, you got 74,999,999 left to go”

Do you think young love can last?

Zach: “Young love can last as long as you have good communication.”

Brett: “The adult couple in the video met like the video plays out. They have actually been together since they were in 6^th They are my parents. ‘I’m not afraid of the fall, I’m just scared of the jump,’ that line is the whole point of the song.”

While the video was adorable, there were definitely some moments where your goofiness showed. How important do you think it is for you guys as artists to let your fans see your personality shine through your work?

Brett: “We are 1000% us at all times—stupid, goofy, cool, and Cody.”

Zach: “We’re not trying to fit into a cookie-cutter band, we’re just being us. And we’ve been doing this for 11 years now, the same exact way.”

Brett: “We’re funny. We know we’re funny.”

Both critics and fans often compare your sound to a wannabe Green Day or Blink-182 band/ Do you take these comparisons as a compliment? What would you say to critics making this comparison?

Zach: “I probably would take it as a compliment since these are the only two bands still relevant from the early 2000s. On the other hand, if you’re only comparing us to those two bands, maybe you need to listen to better music.”

Brett: “I would make the point that you’ve heard how many of our songs? And people are giving criticism about that. I just take it as noise.”

Zach: “Many pop-punk bands nowadays sound similar to Neck Deep or The Story So Far.”

Brett: “People will always make comparisons. I think this song is similar to Weezer if you want to make that connection. And not just because of the glasses. We think our music is good. We know our music is good. Our label knows our music is good. Our fans know our music is good. That’s all I care about.”
