We caught up with Brett, lead singer of Television Supervision, to talk about TVSV’s debut album Waldo which released on January 17th, 2020.
What is the meaning behind the titled Waldo?
Brett: We want our band to be picked out of a crowd. We don’t want to be identified as sounding like another band or being restricted to one specific genre. We want to be different and stand out from other musicians across the scene.
Which track best represents the band?
Brett: It’s really hard to pick just one song. We wrote each song as a single, so they all sound very different. We go from punk to 80s synth to heavy rock and everything in between. The last track “Fool Me Once” is an autobiography. I was the catalyst of the construction of the album and I had been sitting on this song for five years. I always pictured it to be the ending of an album to tie it together. I was really proud of the way this song ended the journey of listening to Waldo.
What is your favorite track?
Brett: Lyrically, I would have to go with “Veterans” or “Fool Me Once.” Musically, I would have to go with “War” or “Heart Theif.” War is the heaviest song on the album and focuses on PTSD. It starts out distorted and then blossoms—we really considered making this one of the singles to release before the album came out.
What are a few of your favorite lyrics?
Brett: “I’m not afraid of the fall I’m just scared to jump” from “Til We Dream.” “Here I go down this road again, only this time I can see where it ends.” from “Veterans.” And “I took a wrong turn somewhere ages ago, chasing the feelings the old me used to know. Come to find I’m happiest when I sleep, but what’s the point of dreaming when you’re right here in front of me.” From Fool Me Once
What can we look forward to in the future?
Brett: We are definitely hoping to create more videos, specifically for some of our favorite songs like War and Cannonball.
Any last comments for your fans or APU readers?
Brett: I think there’s a song on here for everyone. If you like rock music, we will have at least one song you’ll like. We have heavy, pop-punk, punk, alternative songs. It’s designed to be listened to front to back.
