The E-Girl Review: MNYS’s latest release, Lil Huddy at the VMAs, and more

By September 13, 2021September 14th, 2021No Comments

What’s new in the e-world? A whole lot.

We’ll explore all the highlights of the recent e-kid favorites. We keep our eyes on everything from music releases to the stars’ appearances to performances to more. Any alt-pop culture moment of significance that we can find, we’ll give to you.

MNYS releases new single “Big Bear” with an official music video

Alright, we’ve chatted about MNYS before, but I’m here to gush over the new song.

“Sometimes I just feel like I don’t exist” – a key lyric that keeps swirling through my head as I listen to this tune. There is something bold in this simple statement that I can’t seem to shake. As much of a poet that I am, sometimes music, writing, and lyrics get too flowery and focused on a metaphor. The intentional bluntness that MNYS channels into his lyrics in this song is not unnoticed.

The discussion of mental states, especially bad mental states, isn’t an easy one and something that is increasingly sugar-coated and romanticized. The brilliance of “Big Bear” is the shocking lyrics that closely resemble experiences of disassociation without having to say it, but doesn’t dance around the experience like is too often common in expressing these feelings through art.

If you’re ready to take a dive into this sound – here’s where you can stream. We promise you that MNYS is the next big thing.

Lil Huddy attends VMAs, taking his “mama” as a date ahead of album release

New York City was absolutely buzzing this past weekend.

Among those flying in included TikTokers galore including the famous Hype House crew. Of these TikTokers, Chase Hudson (aka Lil Huddy) was among them. With a new album on the horizon, it made sense to see Lil Huddy on the red carpet, making that final push for promotion.

His album “Teenage Heartbreak” is anticipated for September 17th. Upon the announcement of the album, many immediately were excited to see a variety of features and collaborations including that of Blink-182’s drummer Travis Barker. It may not come as a surprise since Barker has been involved from this project since Hudson began putting out music, but its definitely a trend to keep an eye on.

Regardless of PR shenanigans (and on a much more wholesome note), Chase was seen in NYC with his mom for VMA weekend. He’s always been known as a mama’s boy.

Louis Tomlinson’s “The Away From Home Festival” is a huge success

Louis! Is! Back!

After a few years of constant setbacks, Louis Tomlinson finds himself back on-stage singing a mix of throwbacks, 1D covers, and mostly songs from his alternative rock album Walls.

Louis organized “The Away From Home Festival” as his big return to the stage. Interestingly enough, emphasis was put on accessibility for all his fans, even releasing a documentary surrounding how the show came together. Tomlinson’s show was packed full of energy, fun, and most of all appreciation. He is known for stressing his love for his fans and their mutual dedication to each other.

Machine Gun Kelly and Conor McGregor caused chaos on the VMAs red carpet

No one fully knows what fully went wrong, but Page Six reports that the pair did get into a fight on the red carpet and have photos to back their claims up.

Behavior like this isn’t shocking either. The UFC fighter has allegations of sexual assault that he has been arrested for prior and Machine Gun Kelly has a past of sexual comments towards minors and racist remarks. This instance really calls into question how and why MTV continues to invite and support certain artists and public figures who have a pattern of behavior that does not align with their supposed commitment to social impact and justice.

But… maybe that’s a story for another time.

Anyway, that’s your quick update on what’s up with e-kids’ idols of interest.
