The importance of Neck Deep’s “She’s a God”

By July 1, 2019No Comments

UK pop-punk band Neck Deep released a new song on Thursday, June 27, and it’s really important.

It’s majorly important because this is Neck Deep’s first single since their 2017 album The Peace and the Panic (excluding their absolute banger of a cover “Torn”). The release of a new song signifies the ushering in of a new Neck Deep era, hopefully accompanied by a new album relatively soon. And as a hardcore Neck Deep fan, this news makes me happy.

But that’s not the only reason why this song should be on your radar.

What really makes “She’s a God” significant is that it’s a positive song about women.

Now, not to go all super feminist on you, but let me go super feminist on you real quick.

Do you know how refreshing it is to hear a song about women that doesn’t use words like “slut” or “bitch” or similar insults? This kind of language has become so normalized in modern music, and it’s really disheartening to hear your favorite artists write those kind of songs.

Not only does Neck Deep rise above that nonsense, they go as far to say that “she’s a god.” And I really love that.

They don’t even say “goddess,” which just makes the song even more wonderful because forget gender norms; this girl is her own religion.

Neck Deep tweeted, “It’s a song that’s pretty much about worshipping your other half.” That is the positive pop-punk content I am here for.

I just really appreciate that Neck Deep made this song with such a wholesome message. And it’s a mega bop which an absolutely killer outro, so I really have no complaints. Thank you, Neck Deep.
