The live event industry isn’t coming back like the rest of them

It’s no secret that the world is never going to go back to the way it was before COVID-19 shut everything down. It’s also no secret that concerts are not going to be returning to “normal” anytime soon. I think what a lot of people don’t realize though is that this doesn’t only effect the people on stage.

Co-founder of Atlanta based MEPTIK, Nicholas Rivero, released a statement highlighting the impact this pandemic has had and continues to have on the stars behind the show.

“But, you see, our normal isn’t everyone else’s normal. It won’t return when cities begin to reopen. We can’t just restart this beast of a process overnight. Most events you’ve been to — music festivals, concert tours, conferences — take anywhere from months to years to plan and coordinate.”

“During this season, our industry can’t easily pivot to make ends meet. We can’t offer curbside pickup. We don’t have the ability to just reopen a smaller event. We can’t put on a concert tour. Like we have so many times before at shows, wearing all black and working behind the scenes, we now sit, again, in the shadows.”

The people that work so hard behind the scenes to put together your favorite shows are taking a huge hit. But Nicholas ends his article beautifully by saying:

“We will get through this. It might take longer than we hope for, but I know that someday we’ll be creating those magical moments again…because the show must always go on.”

So, keep the tech crews in your thoughts as the world continues down this path of uncertainty, because without them there would be no show.
