“You Can Do This, Too” from steve. is a promising new album in the scene

It’s a good week to be a punk fan. Up and coming act “steve.” dropped a new album on November 8th and it’s looking like it might just be the fun, upbeat punk that we’ve been missing lately.

Just from the lead single “Ankle Biter” it was clear the sound of this album would lead steve. to success. “Ankle Biter came from feelings of not being a good friend, which evolved into realizing I wasn’t the problem,” explains vocalist and guitarist Ky O’Connor. “Ankle Biter” is a song that practically anyone can divulge in and understand, it’s a song where you can both lose yourself in and be reminded of what it means to be human.

The difference between the new album “You Can Do This, Too” and practically any other new release in the punk scene is that it stays true to the roots of punk: a refusal to comply to the mainstream. It’s clear based on the sound of the album that steve. understand what goes into crafting an album that is accessible and relatable, two key components of the genre.

It’s obvious just by the length of each song (with no song being longer than two minutes) that these aren’t cookie-cutter radio pieces, but music that the band genuinely cares about and wants to deliver to the world. These quick quippy songs are refreshing and communicate a story in a short flash of time.

steve. is both the progressive future and the reflection of the past of punk music. They pride themselves on their inclusive attitudes and dedication to creating a scene that is more conscious of the social constructs that it exists within.

Listening to “You Can Do This, Too” gave me the sort of hope we all need to find again for this music scene and the industry at large.
