Getting personal with up and coming artist Television Supervision

By August 25, 2019No Comments

Television Supervision, also known as TVSV, recently signed with Standby Records. Under Standby, TVSV has only released two songs: “Gimme a Girl” and “Daydreams.” The band already has almost 10,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Their debut album Waldo is set to release in January.

We met up with the band for an exclusive interview:

Q: How did you come up with the name Television Supervision?

A: “We came up with the name when superheroes were at the forefront of pop culture. I wanted to have something that had both a cadence to it and had to do with superheroes. I came up with supervision, then television supervision shortly after. Zach and I decided that TVSV describes how the media controls all of what you believe. That no one seems to have an organic thought of their own anymore, solely tuning into channels that take a story and spin their own sh*t on it, which then develops into listening to only what they want to hear and boom, there ya go—another person who has no authenticity. It seems to play right into today’s music.” -Brett Z., lead singer

Q: What does the title Waldo mean to you?

A: “Waldo is all about having to pick our band out of a crowd. Today’s music is so vapid. It is the most oversaturated thing on the planet and most of the things you hear on the radio have ZERO personal connection and lack actual instruments—are real instruments an old-school thing? All you seem to have are cook-cutter “artists” who are screamingly obvious in the industry just to get famous. The songs aren’t even memorable!

We chose Waldo for this exact reason: to be the opposite of this. We write songs for people to jump and let loose to, to remember and forget about everything else. Not to be famous, which we obviously aren’t. We care about what we put out and put ourselves into the songs and videos. We want to stand out because it is so imperative to make authentic music.

Every song of ours has a story, every single one, based on a personal life event. All of them!” -Brett Z., lead singer & Zach G., bass guitarist

Q: What was the inspiration behind “Daydreams,” your latest single?

A: “Have you ever been in a daze all day with your mind drawing a blank, and when you do try to sleep your thoughts are racing a million miles an hour? That’s what ‘Daydreams’ is about. It felt like every day I was in a dream and every night I would wake up and not be able to sleep because of intrusive thoughts of my past.

There was one night where I did finally fall asleep and I ended up talking to my own subconscious, which projected in the form of my ex from high school. She said, ‘the ocean turned to fire.’ I interpreted that as meaning anger had consumed my life, which it had. I was on a path to the dark side. Music was my only outlet for my emotions, and so I channeled that rage and confusion into songwriting. It helped me get over my anger issues, depression, loneliness, and intrusive thoughts of failed relationships.” -Zach G., bass guitarist

TVSV is from Tampa, FL and has several local shows planned in the fall, as well as a winter tour in the works. Check out their live performance at the Brass Mug in Tampa on Friday, September 6th at 7 pm. This performance will include original songs that have not yet been released.
